The Howler
Back To School!

Dear Trailblazer Parents,
It is a joy to welcome all returning, as well as new, Coyote Trail families to another school year. This marks the 21st year of blazin' a trail...and I am just as excited about this one as I was our first year on the trail toward student success two decades ago.
We know that parents have choices when it comes to partnering with a school community to help educate their children.  It is our pleasure to work with you to help build opportunities for our students.  We also expect and have come to anticipate that our students will take full advantage of the opportunities provided to them.  Success stories follow our students as they journey into middle school, high school and beyond.
I love seeing our former students taking on leadership roles, earning scholarships, graduating and landing jobs or pursuing advanced degrees in college or trade schools.
We wish to team up with each of you to support, challenge and encourage our students towards a bright future beyond the Coyote Trail years. This newsletter is one of many ways to join us as we partner together for the good of our students.  Find your place and join us!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
Principal

Fun Events to Kick Off the School Year
The Great American Savings Book is our largest fundraiser scheduled for the year.  At $25 per book this is a great value with $30 of coupons for Albertson's on the first page.  Don't forget there is a mobile app to have coupons available at a touch of a finger included in this year's book.

Our fundraising goal is $15,000, we raised $12,000 last year.  That is just 3 books sold, per child.

With the funds raised this allows PTF to pay for computer software for the students, field trips, capital purchases such as a sun shade over the kindergarten play area and therapeutic play area, the Ben's Bell mural at the campus entrance, and other requests made throughout the year to enhance the educational experience of our students.
This fundraiser concludes September 6.

Thank you for your support.

We admit....we are playing a bit of catch up and neglected to recognize some of the amazing staff and volunteers from last year. In general, the volunteers and staff members nominated feel undeserving, for this reason the list is incomplete. Some nominees wished to remain anonymous.

2015/2016 Volunteer Extraordinaire

As a retired teacher, Kathy Green loves being in the classroom. She has been volunteering for 10 years, primarily in 1st grade, but she also works in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. She and her husband, of 50 years, summer in suburban Chicago. They have one daughter and three grandsons. When she's not volunteering at Coyote Trail or church, she enjoys golf and gardening.

Leonor Martinez volunteers to show her daughter and other children how important education is and to help the teachers at Coyote Trail, who so willingly give of their time to help their students. She has been volunteering for over five years, in teachers' classrooms, lunch bunch reading and additionally as her work schedule allows. She has been married for 18 years and enjoys reading, walking and playing tennis.

The principal, the teachers and staff at Coyote Trail inspire Bob Rohen to volunteer at the school. He volunteers with "Reading Seed" and tutors children in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade to provide students an opportunity to improve their reading skills and increase vocabulary. He has been married for 46 years, has a son and a daughter and two grandsons, who attend Coyote Trail.

Anelda Sharon devotes most of her time to helpings others. She works part-time as an LPN and volunteers at the school. Her son attends Coyote Trail. Last year, she enjoyed volunteering in his classroom, chaperoning field trips and helping with school fundraisers. She has been married for nine years. She enjoys traveling and watching movies with her family.

In addition to volunteering with the American Heart Association and Autism Society of Southern Arizona, Rachel Christmas, she also volunteers at Coyote Trail. She has helped with graphic design needs, as she currently works as a freelance graphic designer. She also has helped with drama stage decoration. She believes it is important to volunteer, so you can contribute to your community and she also wanted to commit energy to her children's educational experience. She and her husband have three children. She enjoys cheering them on at various events and also likes to spend downtime with family and friends and watching movies.

                            2015/2016 ABC Staff Award

Maria Arellano has been working as an aide at Coyote Trail for nine years She says Coyote Trail is a happy place with wonderful people, so she enjoys going to work everyday. She considers the people at Coyote Trail her second family. The family she goes home to consists of her husband of 23 years and her son and daughter.

As a teacher, Lindsey Buckler, also volunteers as a Technology Mentor and coordinates a portion of the Love Of Reading Week. She says being part of the school is like being part of a family. She wants to help her "work family" as much as possible so the school can be a positive experience for students and families. She has her own family, including her husband, of four years, and her three children. Her kids keep her busy, but she also enjoys reading and sleeping, when she can sneak in the time.

Although Patsy Kimbro could retire any time, she doesn't have the desire to. Patsy has lived in Tucson since 1977 and loves it here. She also loves being an aide at Coyote Trail. She has six children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Jenna Nicholarson volunteers for the Winter Wonderland and Carnival events. She likes volunteering because she enjoys being around the students and families at Coyote Trail. She also enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, shopping and reading.

Jeanette Schneider and her husband have lived in Tucson for about four years. She says she volunteers "wherever and whenever" she can. She really enjoys helping others, in addition to her other hobbies; sewing, gardening, hiking, cooking and reading. She is married and has one child, who attends Colorado State University.

During the last 11 years, Tania Strayer has spent a lot of time at Coyote Trail, volunteering as a tutor, preparing and volunteer coordinating for the school Carnival and sponsoring the Fall Festival. She enjoys working at Coyote Trail because of the "sense of community" at the school.  She has been married for seven years and has three adult children and two grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family, vacationing with her husband and watching baseball.

Superstar Students 2015/2016

Superstar lunches have a theme each month. Each teacher selects a student he/she feels has been a Superstar at the subject of the month. Students are invited to eat lunch, provided by Texas Roadhouse, in the counselor's room with the school counselor, Michele Lopez and Mr. Johnson. Students are presented with a certificate, a prize and they usually participate in an activity. The first Superstar lunch for this school year is scheduled for September 23.

Ways to Raise Money For Coyote Trail

  • Fry's Card - Click Here to link your Fry's card to Coyote Trail. *Remember, even if you did this last year, you need to renew it again this year. Encourage neighbors, friends and relatives to do the same with their Fry's card. After you sign up, you don't need to do anything else but shop! This is easy money for Coyote Trail.
  • Labels for Education - Turn in labels from Campbell's (soups), Pepperidge Farms (Goldfish, Milanos), Bic (razors), Prego (spaghetti sauce), V8 (juice), Pace (salsa), Emerald (almonds), Dannon (yogurt), Pop Secret (popcorn), Post (cereals), Swanson (frozen dinners) *Remember there are a lot of products that have labels that can be turned into your child's teacher or the front office to make money for Coyote Trail.
  • Box Tops - collect box tops on many common pantry-type foods, Kleenex and frozen foods. *Remember to ask family and friends to collect Box Tops, too, and turn them into the front office or your child's teacher.
  • Raytheon Employees: Raytheon's "Matching Gifts for Education Program" is designed to encourage Raytheon employees to support education with their personal contributions. Coyote Trail is eligible for matching gifts under this program, which means that if you do a tax credit donation to Coyote Trail, Raytheon will match your gift, doubling the amount of your donation up to $10,000! The Matching Gifts for Education program can be found here on the Raytheon network.
